Important Things About Tires

TIRES.

Good and intact tires belong to the most important equipment characteristics of automobiles, those applies naturally to used cars also. You can find more informations at BUYER TIPS FOR SECOND HAND CARS, if you follow the link below.

Old or worn out tires could become a very dangerous venture, for example, begin to swim on a wet road, or simply breaks out, because the road grip gets too small.

Check the pressure of your tires twice a month at the cold tire. When the pressure is too low, it leads to a strong heating of the tire, the consequences are: tire damage, bad driving, high tire wear and higher fuel consumption.

TIRES SPEED INDEX

The maximum speed of the tires must correspond with the maximum speed of the car at least. So, for example the letter "P" means a maximum speed of 150 km/h, the letter "Q" for a maximum speed of 160 km/h etc.

G = up to 90 km/h

J = up to 100 km/h

L = up to 120 km/h

M = up to 130 km/h

N = up to 140 km/h

P = up to 150 km/h

Q = up to 160 km/h

R = up to 170 km/h

S = up to 180 km/h

T = up to 190 km/h

H = up to 210 km/h

V = up to 240 km/h

VR= more than 210 km/h

W = up to 270 km/h

ZR = more than 240 km/h

Y = up to 300 km/h

TIRES DOT

Give the age of the tire a special attention, because old and fragile tires can become life- threatening. When were the tires manufactured? The answer to the manufacture date is indicated by the DOT number.

These three to four number digit code, shows the calendar week with the first two positions, the year in the following positions. From 1990 to 1999 manufactured tires show an aditional triangle beside the DOT number and a tire starting from the year 2000 has four digit numbers.

For example: 237 means calender week 23. and year 1987.

499 "triangle" means week 49. year 1999.

3006 week 30. year 2006.

The life span of a tire is approx. 10 years.

SKID DEPTH

With a depth of 2 mm the handling of the car decrease clearly. The profile of the tire is the life insurance of the driver and his passengers and should be examined. Turn the steering wheel completely into one direction, so that the tires are completely visible. Choose a place with a minimum of skid depth and do your measurement. If you do not have a tire tread gauge for a measurement, take a 1 euro coin, their golden edge measures 3.5 mm, or a 20 sen Malaysian coin, approx. 3.5 mm if you can not read the letters of "sen" any more.
